To be completely compatible with all valid DDR SDRAM memory stipulation, the board should be populated with DIMMs which support the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data structure. This will help the BIOS for reading the SPD data and program the chipset to accurately configure memory settings for optimum performance. If non-SPD memory is installed, the BIOS will make an effort to appropriately put together the memory settings, but performance and dependability may be impacted or the DIMMs may not work under the unwavering frequency.
